As America begins its walk-through Hebrews’ 12:26 & 27 shaking, it brings scripture into focus. We are to depend on God, not a government of men. Scripture is abundantly clear that we, the ekklesia, are to be generous to the poor (Proverbs 19:17) in order to practice a faith pure and undefiled before God (James 1:27). If we do not, we answer to 1 John 3:17-18. If we have the ability to help our neighbor in need and don’t, “how does God’s Love abide in us?”
Let’s take a walk into reality: America is bankrupt. The revenues collected fall short of the outflows to the tune of billions of dollars a month. Our debt is in the multi-trillion range. The Biden administration is to be blamed for the extraordinary exacerbation of debt over the last four years, but prior administrations (Trump, Obama, Bush the Younger, Clinton, and Bush the Elder) all contributed to this current position. The incomprehensible dispatch of our tax dollars to Ukraine and illegal aliens over the past four years has made the hole incomprehensively deeper. Now, we need to follow God and recognize we are the borrowers found in Proverbs 22:7 and Psalm 37:21. Romans 13:8 tells us to “Owe no one anything, except to love each other.”
We have also spent the last 40 to 50 years making the American population dependent on a corrupt government system to sustain them. The government was never intended to be the cavalry riding to our rescue. And now, the horses are sick and can’t carry the cavalry we thought we had. No human is coming to our rescue, only the all-loving God of the universe. It is time to step into the authority and design God gave us. We, the church, the community, and individuals are to step into the gap in our communities and help support the poor, homeless, and the destitute. Stop telling everyone, “I pay taxes for all of that!” No, you don’t. You pay taxes to keep federal roads open, field armed forces to PROTECT borders, and the other very limited duties found in Article 1, section 8 of the Constitution. This governmental bloat we see before us needs a pin stuck in it.
It is going to be painful, but thankfully, we have a President willing to make the right moves to curb this spendingpalooza. President Trump temporarily suspended grant payments and other government gifts that were not part of Article 1, section 8. It is time for the church and other ministries to step into their 501C3 statuses and use ALL of their funds to help the community. Local governments start helping your community by filling those ministries with local dollars. Local businesses and citizens dig deep to help take care of these people: homeless, abused, orphans, and widows (Matthew 25:34-40: 1 Timothy 5:1-16). It is not the federal government’s responsibility; it is our responsibility, the community’s responsibility.
We all would like to see the changes needed made gradually over time. We don’t have the luxury of time. Until the revenue streams can be increased and the spending decreased to balance the budget, we will all need to change how we do things. The church, Christian, and non-Christian ministries will need to band together in their communities to ensure there is food, housing, and protection for the citizens. That was God’s intent for the church and communities. That is how America operated until the ’60s. Government is not our savior.
Church leaders get into the harvest field. It is ripe, but the workers are few. Many need help now, with more to come. Again, stop looking to the government. As God works through President Trump, we will hopefully see FEMA, the Department of Education, and others eliminated, freeing up dollars to return to the states. We will also see the three letter agencies decrease, and those funds return to the states. Now, communities and churches hold your local and state officials accountable for distributing those funds to the organizations helping those in need in your communities. It is your responsibility, not the Federal Government. God will hold all of us accountable for doing His work.
It will not be easy for a while. Reformation takes time and pain. God is giving us the opportunity to meet the needs in a manner He outlined in His infallible Word. Do it. Step into the authority God has given each of us, bind the demons trying to get us to look to something other than God. Trust and believe in God and the work of His Son, Jesus Christ (John 14:1). Work for those in your community who are in need as Christ did. Government is government, and God is God. Keep government in its lane and turn God loose to do His work. The outcome will be immeasurably better.
